5-HTP- the precursor to serotonin and raising your overall happiness.

What is 5-HTP?
5-HTP or 5-Hydroxytryptophan is made by the body from the amino acid tryptophan, which is then changed into the neurotransmitter known as serotonin. 5-HTP cannot be sourced from our diets, though the amino acid tryptophan can be found in health supplements such as BCAA’s and BCAA mixed protein powders.
Tryptophan amino acid is important to keeping the maintenance of your body’s protein, enzymes, and neurotransmitters functioning correctly, though it is also the precursor to serotonin- also known as the happy hormone, a hormone transmitted in the brain to help regulate our moods, its primary action helps us feel overall happiness and wellbeing, and by doing this it lowers our feelings of stress, panic attacks, and general mood swings- now who wouldn’t want that!

5-HTP effectivity & dosage
Recommended dosages for 5-HTP varies for most people, though its efficacy has been researched enough to show that it is most effective from 50mg, though it is also useful to know that 5-HTP can also bring on drowsiness, because of this keeping the dosage low may be of good use if your an active person or perhaps get a 5-HTP supplement that contains B6 as it helps to reduce fatigue. If taken before bed then all worries would be out the door, though upping your dosages should be done with caution to avoid adverse health issues, it’s recommended that each individual consults with a health professional, doctor/Gp beforehand.
